Be careful of this gym! Contract states "written notice" required to cancel contract. Went to cancel contract, they refuse to cancel unless I send them a certified letter.

Does not state in contract that I have to do this but they (since they seem to make their own rules) REFUSE to cancel without going through the mail. This is another way that they make it difficult to cancel, I am sure they are hoping we won't have time to go and they will continue to collect more money. Seems to me that making a copy of the written request and asking the clerk to sign your copy would be equal proof that they received it, of course the RUDE manager that I spoke to would not agree to such a thing and instisted that I send it through the mail. How ridiculous!

I have also been double charged by them at least 3 times this year. On one occassion they charged me over 200 dollars that they weren't supposed to. In order to rectify the situation they required me to bring in my personal information ie: bank statements to prove they were wrong and would not give me back my money for several weeks.

This company operates as if they are the law. Be smart, do not join this gym!

Totally agree!

I cancelled my membership and my son's as well, had to pay fees and sign documentation at the counter, and was then told I would need to send a certified letter, to complete the process. Where was that certified letter going?

To that gym! In the verbiage it also states that the membership was required to remain open for 30 days--meaning that it would bill me for one final month of membership! What?! I sent the smarmy gym their letter, included my own warning not to charge my account again and closed that account for good measure.

I'm so disappointed in this gym. What a bunch of crooks.

Imagine being so greedy that you milk your members out of one last month of service after cancellation. I'm reporting them to the BBB.

I was a member of this gym for many years -- singing up at their grand opening at the Resler & Redd location in 1999. I started seeing odd charges for less than $5 appear on my credit card from EPFitness -- I inquired and they stated they were "test charges" -- when I wanted to quit, I went by the main office to complain and resign and they gave me the 30-days after they receive written notice of cancellation via registered mail. In recent years, I've noticed that customers have called them out on these odd business practices --- I would take my business somewhere else -- not EPFitness.

my debit card was expired but they changed the expiration date on their system without my authorization in order for them to continue charging my account. They did it for three months, after those three months they said that I had a $30 fee because my card was "expired" and the payment wouldn't go through.

I paid my monthly membership and fought for the fee. A few days later they charged the fee from my account without me making any changes on my account. After that they charged a $29.99 annual fee but that payment didn't go through because my card was "expired" and they charged me another $30 fee. Basically they didnt charge my payments in order to charge me fees, and they only charged those fees from my card.

They only updated my card for certain things convenient to the company.

Never again will I do business witht them.

We are military. Son deployed and we canceled our membership.

.they since have decided we are still active and have charged us 117 for a canceled membership. .we have called and spoke to a mngr but have had no success in getting our funds returned. .so when they say we honor military they do not..and worse is there is no way to contact corporate. .why.

are you hiding from us so we can not correct the issues.

.stop scamming and start doing the right thing. We have never had this issue with any other gym ...

EP's never getting my business again. Joined and now they have removed the TV's from the cardio machines.

My membership ends in December.

Going to planet fitness. Used planet fitness in Florida and had to cancel membership and it was so easy.

Guest

I had the same issue, unfortunately Planet Fitness is even worse. Why can't we get a fitness center in EP that doesn't try to rip you off requiring access to your bank account?

My mortgage company doesn't even require this?? It is all a ripoff that the state AG should look into!

Go to planet don't go to ep don't complain to Mario either he won't care I got a lot of dirt on him

Do not ever go to this gym or work there the president is a ***

Just got charged an annual fee for my membership. I don't ever recall paying this.

This was the main reason why I did not go with the other gym, since I knew they did have an annual fee. What a ripoff.

There's gotta be some legal action to take against these guys...

Has anyone filed a complaint with the BBB? If not, please do so - so you can help to warn others. They currently have an unsatisfactory rating but only have 26 complaints for billing issues have been filed. I know that it should be WAY more than that. I also had an issue with them regarding double billing (several times)and I too fought with their RUDE and CALLOUS staff. They refused to refund my money also. Fortunately, I had been being billed through American Express. I called American Express, filed a complaint with them. A.E. gave me an immediate refund and did a charge back to EP Fitness. A.E. puts their customers first and required EP Fitness to prove the charges to be correct. E.P couldn't prove their case to American Express. I am very lucky that I used that credit card to have my payments directed to. Here is the current contact information listed on the BBB website for EP Fitness (not sure how up to date it is but I do know that Scott Kubitz is still the owner)

My husband and I both had a membership with EP for about a year. During that year I lost my debit card so we changed the acct.

informaiton for the automatic debit. They fixed my husbands membership not mine. My bill was sent to collections, I went into the office and they told me I had to go to the corporate office to get it fixed, I went through all of the hassel to get this done and they still screwed it all up twice during the year. I got sent to collections 3 times.

I have never been late on payments, I always had money in my account but they just screwed it all up. Then we moved to CA. CANCELLATION went smoothly at the time. Until I saw that my checking account being billed every month.

I put in a cliaim with my bank and tried to call them so that I could get my refund back. But I doubt I will get it. Overrall this gym was good but it is not worth it unless you never plan to cancel.

I would not recommend EP Fitness at all. Stay away!!!!!

I have had no problems with EP fitness but, after having to go through their cancellation process, I can honestly say I will never return. I live closer to the corporate office than the post office and stopped by to cancel my account.

I planned on returning but knew my schedule would be busy for the next few months. The girl at the front desk was overly rude and did not even take her eyes off her phone to tell me that I had to mail it in. I explained that the post office was out of my way and I was always there and she said she would not accept it.

I definately will not be returning based on this experience. Fortunately there are a lot more gyms opening up in El Paso.

I too got screwed by ep fitness. Me and my husband moved out of El Paso several months ago, after I explained to them I moved out of town they reminded me of my contract that ended on 1/31/2011.

I too was advised that I would need to send a certified letter to cancel. I sent a certified that they confirmed they received on 1/22/11......I was still charged for me and my husband plus an annual for 29.95. I called the so called corporate office got hung up twice by Ruth, then spoke to a Kristi who said it's policy to cancel membership 30 days after they receive notice. Kristi refused to refund my charges, she then dumped me to a Sandra (which later I come to find out there is no Sandra it was Angie), No results with Angie so I asked for her supervisor.

She told me she didn't have one after some persistence she said she would put me thru to her manager Jasmine. After holding for over 10 mines, Stella rudely answered and explained to me she usually does not take calls but she would this time, after explaining again (since no one else told her what was going on. She said she would not refund me either , it was policy, Stella (the manager) was also the one who told me the rep I was speaking too was Angie not Sandra and there was not a Sandra in the office. I even called her by Sandra several times she never corrected me.

Stella told me she heard the whole conversation and the rep said her name was Angie. Funny on how Stella didn't know my name or why I was calling but she had heard the whole conversation. I asked Stella to speak with her boss so I can take this higher. I love this part; she is in charge, over all of corporate office.

So needless to say "no refund" but I will continue to try to get a refund, it's the principal of the matter, after being a member for so many years.

My husband has been with them when they were World Gymรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs; you would like to assume they would gladly refund the 1 month and annual membership fee. Guess Not.

I tried to cancel and they have me going to the corporate office. Then, I had to send a certified letter, then thy told me I was still liable for the rest of the year.

I use to be a member here at EP Fitness but there was an incedent with one of the employees. His name is Mike Ramirez.

He approached me in a sexuaal manner and I brought to the attention of the man in charge, Scott. this man is one of the men in charge of sales for this business. Just to let you all know. I am not the first complaint of this sexual offense towards a member.

I guess this company likes to hire sexually filthy employees. Please be smart and stay away from Michael Ramirez - Corporate.

Please send me the address of EPF corporate office. I want to cancel my membership, and after reading all the complaints, I don't want to alert them.

I hope you read my message.
